Located at an altitude of 1132 m above sea level, Aizawl is a vibrant city and the capital of the northeastern Indian state of Mizoram. Mainly dominated by the Mizo Tribe, Aizawl and its environs are surrounded by rolling hills and abundant greenery. The city is known for its agricultural products and ethnic handicrafts and textiles along with most parts of the state.
Aizawl
Aizawl is well connected by road and air to other major centers in Northeast India like Silchar in Assam and Guwahati. Importantly, entry to Mizoram requires an Inner Line Pass or ILP which is available in Guwahati, Silchar, Shillong, New Delhi, and Kolkata. Aizawl, one of the oldest cities in the northeastern region of India, is a perfect place to relax while enjoying the pronounced eye zone, local food, and culture. Home to the Mizoram State Museum and several other tourist complexes, tourists have many options to enjoy a sightseeing tour of the city. Apart from this, you can also visit the nearby hilly Hmuifang, Tamdil Lake, and Chanmari areas.
Durtlang Hills
Located on the north side of Aizawl, Durtlang Hills is a popular attraction houses viewpoints a panoramic view of the capital city. One can drive towards one destination and once there a little light can be involved in hiking and trekking. The best time to visit Durtlang Hills would be in the morning when the sun is not as harsh as in the afternoon.
Reiek
At an altitude of 1465 meters, Reiek, or Reiek Tlang is one of the highest hills in Mizoram. Located at a distance of 29 km from the city of Aizawl, Reiek Tlang is an excellent view of Aizawl and its surrounding valleys with a backdrop of views borrowed from the Mizo Hills. A trip to the summit is also a great trekking opportunity that is usually reserved for a quiet sunny day. Like most of the Northeastern sights of India, the peak of the Reiek is relatively obscure and sits beautifully like pearls in the hills. Reiek Hills is also home to a small village inhabited by Mizos which is considered a heritage site. In addition to hiking sites, a hill is also a place for bird watching. While climbing the mountain, you will come across the faces of native birds, including nests and Peregrine Falcon, which are known to build nests on rocky shores.
Vantawng Falls
The highest waterfall in the state and the 13th largest in the country, Vantawng Waterfalls is the most acclaimed waterfall in the North East. Vantawng Falls is the pride of Mizoram and one of its main attractions. The waterfall, located 137 km from the capital Aizawl, is a gem in its own right. The thick greenery around the falls looks like a river of white milk in the distance between the valleys. People flock from all directions of the state to keep an eye on its power and beauty. The waterfall can only be seen from a distance due to the thick forest cover. It is located in the Vanva River near Thenzawl which is known for its flowing speed. Vantawng Falls is a testament to the amazing natural beauty hidden in the north-east.
