The Osian is an ancient city in Jodhpur of Rajasthan. in the Thar Desert, It is an oasis. The town is a panchayat village. It is the headquarters of Osian tehsil. The place is famous for its ruined Hindu and Jain temples from the 8th century to the 12th century.
During the Gurjara Pratihara dynasty, this city was a major religious center of the kingdom of Marwar. Of the 18 temples in the group, one is the Sun Temple, one is the Jain Temple dedicated to Mahavira, and the other is Sachiya Mata Temple.
The city was at least a major center of early trade at the beginning of the Gupta period. Although the site has been the architecture of Hinduism and Jainism for hundreds of years, they have retained it. It came to an abrupt end in 1195 when it was attacked by Muhammad’s army of Ghor.
Sachiya Mata Temple
The Sachchia Mata Temple is located in Osian. Mother Goddess Sachiya was worshiped there by Marwadi, Karnavat, Oswal, Maheshwari, Maid Kshatriya Swarnakar, Agarwal, and Mahecha.
In the 9th to 10th century CE, the Parmar King Upendra built The temple for his Kuldevi. Maa Jagat Bhawani Shri Sachchiyay Mataji was historically called Shri Osiya Mataji.
The archaeological team found many specimens, paintings, and statues there. Depictions included the ancient deity of Harihar, Krishna fighting with a horse, Kalidaman, Vasudeva with baby Krishna on his head, killing of Putna, butter stealing, and Govardhan Dharan.
At one time Ossia was a large city. 108 Jain temples were found in Osian. Located at a distance of 25 miles from Jodhpur. It is possible to reach here by train and bus from Jodhpur and Pokhran.
Safari Camp Osian
Safari Camp Osian is approximately 62 km from Jodhpur. camel safari, jeep safari, Overnight camping, the sight of the surrounding areas, and tribal houses are the main attractions of the safari camp.
People go there to get a chance to see the tribal houses and their living quarters. People prefer to stay there for 2-3 days to enjoy the atmosphere, the culture, the tribal culture, etc…
