Mangaladevi Temple
The Mangaladevi temple is dedicated to Goddess Mangaladevi in the form of Goddess Durga. This temple is the oldest temple in Mangalore. It is believed that this temple was built in 9000 AD. The city is also named after this temple. The temple was built by Kundavarman, the most famous king of the Alupa dynasty. The architecture of this temple is built in Kerala style. Most of the structure of this temple is made of wood. The presiding deity, Mangaladevi is in a seated posture in the central temple. Sultan Battery
The Sultan built this watchtower to monitor the entry of warships into the Gurupur River. This is a popular tourist destination as one can see the beautiful scenery on the battery. Sultan Battery was built in 1784 by Tipu Sultan. This is a watchtower. The Sultan Battery was built of black stones and was built to prevent warships from entering the river.
