Guwahati is one of the largest cities in the state of Assam. Guwahati is located on the south bank of the Brahmaputra river. The city is one of the fastest-growing cities in India. The city is also called the ‘Gateway to North-East India‘.There are many ancient temples like Kamakhya Temple, Ugratara Temple, Basistha Temple, and Dolgobinda hence this city is also called the city of temples. The city of Guwahati derives its name from an association of two Assamese words – ‘guwa’ meaning areca nut and ‘hat’ meaning market. The Shillong Plateau on this city was formerly known as Pragjyotishpur. The city is considered one of the oldest cities in Asia.

Kamakhya Temple

The Kamakhya Temple is dedicated to Goddess Kamakhya. This temple is considered to be one of the sacred 51 Shakti Peeths of the Hindus. The temple is located on Nilachal Hill in the western part of Guwahati city. This temple is a very sacred and auspicious temple for the followers of the Tantric sect. The Kamakhya temple celebrates the power of giving birth to a woman. In this temple, a festival is celebrated for 3-4 days in the month of June which is called the Ambubachi festival.

Umananda Temple

Umananda Temple is located on Peacock Island on the Brahmaputra River. The island was built in 1694 A.D. Was performed by King Gadadhar Singha. This temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. Apart from Lord Shiva, this temple has idols of 10 Hindu deities. Peacock Island is considered one of the smallest inhabited islands. It is said that according to the Kalikapurana, Lord Shiva sprinkled ashes here and gave knowledge to Goddess Parvati.

Assam State Museum

Assam State Museum is also known as Assam State State Museum. The museum was established in 1940 during the period of foreign settlements in India. The museum displays new World War II artifacts and sculptures dating back to the 5th-12th centuries. The museum was originally established by the Kamrupa Research Committee, Assam Research Society to display the history, sculptures, and handicrafts of North East India. The museum was taken over by the Assam State Government in 1953.

Shrimanta Shankardeva Kalakshetra

Shrimant Sankardev Kalakshetra is a cultural institute in Panjabari. The main purpose of this institute is to promote the culture, art, and tradition of Assam. The Kala Kendra was established in 1990. The center is named after the medieval poet-playwright and reformer Shrimant Sankardev.In addition to the cultural museum, library, and children’s park, there are various facilities for the collection, display, and display of cultural objects.

Guwahati Planetarium

Guwahati Planetarium is a center for teaching and research in astronomy. The planetarium uses the Japanese Goto tool. This place is an excellent place for ‘universe lovers’.Skywatching sessions are regularly held at the site by planetarium experts. Seminars, workshops and conferences are regularly organized here for astronomy comrades.
