Pondicherry is the capital of the Union Territory of India. Pondicherry is the most populous city. The city is located near Tamil Nadu. Aurobindo Ashram

 

Aurobindo Ashram

Aurobindo Ashram is a spiritual community. After the establishment of Aurobindo  Pondicherry in 1910, the ashram developed from a small community of disciples gathered around. The Ashram was established on 24 November 1926. This ashram was established for the purpose of giving salvation and inner peace to the people. After Ghosh’s death in 1950, the ashram was taken care of by Meera Alfasa, who was known as the mother in the ashram.

Sri Manakula Vinayagar Temple

Sri Manakula Vinayagar Temple is dedicated to Lord Ganesha. The temple was founded in the 5th century. Located behind the Raj Niwas, the donkey is said to have a magnificent idol of Vinayak called Vellakkara Pilai. It is a popular pilgrimage and tourist destination in Puducherry. In this temple Brahmamotsav, a 24-day festival is celebrated with much fanfare.

Pondicherry Museum

The Pondicherry Museum is known for its collection of fast lost-wax bronzes from the Chola Empire period. The museum houses the remains of archeological findings from the Arikamedu Roman colony. The museum’s collection contains 81 Chola bronze sculptures. The museum is considered to be one of the largest collections of Chola bronze. Some specimens of Chola and Pallava art of Karaikal in Pondicherry are displayed in the Sculpture Gallery.

Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus

The church was founded in 1908 by French missionaries. This church is considered to be one of the most beautiful Catholic churches in Pondicherry. The church was granted basilica status in 2011. Here is a rare stained glass panel depicting the events of the life of Christ and the life of the saints of the Catholic Church.

Varadharaja Perumal Temple

The Varadaraja Perumal temple is dedicated to the Hindu god Vishnu. The temple is built in the style of Dravidian architecture. The temple was built by the Chola Empire in the 11th century. The temple has a five-tiered Raja Gopuram, which is the entrance to the temple. The temple is located in the Heritage Town area of the city.
