Thoothukudi

The former name of Thoothukudi is Tuticorin. Thoothukudi is a port city in the state of Tamil Nadu. The city is located on the Coromandel Coast of the Bay of Bengal. The town of Thoothukudi is known as the “Pearl City” for catching pearls. Tuticorin is a busy port town hidden away in Tamil Nadu. The city is one of the sea gateways of Tamil Nadu. It is also one of the major seaports in India with a history dating back to the 6th century AD. The majority of the people of the city are employed in salt pans, sea-borne trading, fishing, and tourism. Thoothukudi has been a center of maritime trade and pearl fishing for over 2000 years.

Srivaikuntam Temple is one of the nine holy Vishnu temples in India. A granite wall surrounds the temple, enclosing all its shrines and two of its three bodies of water.
