Shimla is the capital and largest city of Himachal Pradesh. it was declared as the summer capital of British India in 1864. This city was the capital of Punjab after India got independence.  then it became the capital of Himachal Pradesh. the city of Shimla is the main commercial, educational, and cultural center of the state. It was the capital of the city now known as Myanmar from 1942 to 1945, which was known as British Burma at that time.

The main picnic point or Hangout point and shopping center in Shimla is Mall Road. Mall Road is located below the ridge, which was built during the British colonial rule. The fire service, police station, and corporate office are located here. Automobiles are not allowed on this road except for emergency vehicles.

Viceregal Lodge is now known as Rashtrapati Niwas and its located on the Observatory Hills of Shimla. It contains ancient inscriptions and photographs dating back to British rule in India. during Lord Dufferin’s tenure, The Viceregal Lodge was built in the Jacobethan style by British architect Henry Irwin viceroy.  construction of Viceregal Lodge was started in 1880 and completed in 1888

At the time the estate was spread over an estimated 331 acres. Now it is reduced to 110 acres. it reflects elements of the fortress of the Scottish Highlands and structure draws instinct from the architectural style of the English Renaissance.

After St. John’s Church in Meerut, Christ Church, Shimla is the second oldest church in North India. Worship is performed in Hindi and English. it’s situated on The Ridge. 

The church was built-in 1857 in the neo-Gothic style. it serves the largely Anglican British community in what was formerly called Simla. The church survived the political turmoil on the Indian subcontinent and the partition of 20th century India. Rev. B.S. Chander was the first Indian Chaplain of Christ Church. 

Jakhoo Temple

Jakhoo Temple is an ancient temple dedicated to the Hindu Lord Hanuman in Shimla. The highest peak of Shimla is Jakhoo Hill and this temple is located there. The festival is held on Dussehra every year. However, the festival was held at Annadale Before 1972.
