Agnigarh

Agnigarh is a hill located in Tezpur. According to Hindu mythology, the fort was built by Banasura to keep his daughter Usha in solitude. Usha fell in love with Krishna’s grandson Aniruddha. When it came to their marriage, Usha’s father did not agree so there was a war between Hari and Harsh. Brahma requested the two to stop the war by keeping them between them. After Tir, Balasur agreed to this marriage. So this hill is also considered a symbol of love and war.

Chitralekha Udyan

Chitralekha Udyan was earlier called Cole Park. It is named after a famous character in the Aniruddha-Usha love story. A drawing competition is organized here every year by the surrounding schools. Activities like bumping cars, paddle boating, and small rowing are done here to attract the tourists coming here.

Mahabhairav Temple

The ancient Mahabhairav temple is located on a hill. The Mahabhairav temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. The original form of this temple was made of stone. The temple has since been renovated and constructed of concrete. The land of this temple has been donated by the king of the Tungkung dynasty. In the complex of this temple, the festival of Mahashiv Ratri is celebrated with much fanfare.

Ketakeshwar Dewal

Ketkeshwar Dewal is a holy place located in the Ketekibari area of Tezpur. This temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. The Shivling located here is considered to be one of the largest Shivlings in the world. It is believed that there was a strong earthquake in the past and the Shiva linga of this temple was overthrown from its place. So the temple falls into two parts, one of which is the actual Shivling and the other a few meters away from where the original base of the linga is located.
