“Gujarat’s tribute to the nation” The project was started with such a name. Narendra Modi announced this project in memory of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel at a press conference on October 7, 2013, on the occasion of the beginning of his tenth year as Chief Minister.
To execute the project, a separate society was formed for it- Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Unity Trust (SVPRET) under the chairmanship of the Chief Minister, Government of Gujarat.

The Gujarat government relocated an estimated 185 families to make way the statue. they gave 1,200 acres (475 hectares) of new land as compensation.
The Statue of Unity is the tallest statue in the world. Its height is 182 meters. The first tallest statue is the Spring Temple Buddha which is located in China. The statue of Unity 54 meters taller than its height.
There is a viewing gallery near the chest of the statue at a height of 500 feet.
India 2000 laborers and some laborers from China contributed to this construction.
When compared to New York’s famous Statue of Liberty, the Statue of Unity is 4 times taller.
The statue cost about $430m (Rs. 29.9bn).

The second part reaches to his thigh and the third part reaches to his chest. The fourth part is allocated for maintenance while the last part reaches near his head and shoulders
