Kalimpong is a municipality and a town of West Bengal. It is Lies at an average elevation of 1,250 meters. It is the headquarters of Kalimpong district. The Kalimpong district falls under the Gorkhalland Territorial Administration, an autonomous governing body of the state of West Bengal. The 27th Mountain Division of the Indian Army is located on the outskirts of the city. Kalimpong is known for its educational institutions, many of which were founded during the British colonial period. Before China’s annexation of Tibet and the Sino-Indian War, it was used as a gateway to trade between Tibet and India. Kalimpong and neighboring Darjeeling were the main centers demanding a separate Gorkhaland state in the 1980s, and more recently in 2010. 

Zang Dhok Palri Phodang

Zang Dhok Palri Phodang is a Tibetan Buddhist monastery located in Kalimpong of West Bengal. The monastery is located at the top of Durpin Hill, one of the two hills in the city. In 1976, the visiting Dalai Lama consecrated it. The monastery contains many rare scriptures that were brought to India in 1959 after the annexation of Tibet. It also has 108 parts of Kangyur. It is also famous as Durpin Monastery. The view over the mountain is breathtaking. 

Tharpa Choling Monastery

Gaden Tharpa Choling Monastery is the Gelugpa Monastery located on the top of a hill in Kalimpong. The monastery was founded in 1912 by Domo Geshe Rinpoche Ngawang Kalsang. History says that Domo Geshe Rinpoche lived in Kalimpong in 1906 when he came from India, Nepal, and Bhutan for pilgrimage and to collect medicinal plants. At the request of Tibetan merchants living in Kalimpong and some Bhutanese leaders, Rinpoche founded the monastery. Geden Tharpa Choling monastery is a non-profit development organization registered under the West Bengal Societies Registration Act, 1961.

Morgan House 

Morgan House is a mansion, located in the noble greens of Kalimpong,  built by Mr. and Mrs. Morgan in the 1930s. It is an ancient example of colonial architecture in Kalimpong. What makes it even better to visit this magnificent part of the construction is surrounded by haunting stories! It has been converted into a lodge for tourists and is under the administration of the West Bengal Tourism Development Corporation. Located close to New Jalpaiguri Railway Station, this destination is situated in the lap of nature and is also easily accessible.
