Kanyakumari is also known as Cape Comorin. it is a town located in Kanyakumari District. In honor of Swami Vivekananda, It was built in 1970, who is said to have attained enlightenment on a rock. it’s a popular tourist monument located in Vavathurai of Kanyakumari. it was on this rock that Lord Kumari performed tapas in devotion to Lord Shiva, According to local legends. The Meditation Hall, also known as the Dhyana Mandapam, is attached to a monument for visitors to meditate on. The design of the mandapa includes various styles of temple architecture from all over India. Surrounding the rocks is the Laccadive Sea.
The Thiruvalluvar statue is a stone sculpture of the Tamil poet and philosopher Valluvar, an ancient Tamil work on mysticism and morality, authored by Thirukkural and its 41 meters tall. where the Bay of Bengal and the Arabian Sea, and the Indian Ocean meet, It is located on a small island near the city of Kanyakumari, in the southern part of the Indian peninsula off the Coromandel coast. the Indian sculptor V. Ganapati Sthapati, who also built the Iraivan Temple had sculpted the statue. It was unveiled by then Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi on January 1, 2000, the day of the millennium.
Vattakottai Fort is a coastal fort near Kanyakumari in the southern part of India. It was built in the 18th century as a coastal defense-fortification and barracks of the East Travancore Empire. It was built by the kings of Travancore in the 18th century, later modified under the supervision of Capt. Eustachius De Lannoy, a former Dutch naval officer of the Dutch East India Company, became commander of the Travancore army in the 18th century. He then gained the trust of Travancore King Marthanda Varma.
Our Lady of Ransom Church
It is a Catholic church located In Kanyakumari. Tombstones carved at Kumari Mattam near Kanyakumari show that the Kath Thalikos lived there for many centuries. The tombstones dated 1496 contain an order from the local ruler to grant tax exemption to the residents of Kumari Mattum and to collect cess from the fishermen of Kumari Mattum. The gross income thus earned had to be used to keep the church lights on.
