Puri is a city and a municipality in the eastern Indian state of Odisha. It is the district headquarters of Puri district and is located, 60 km south of the state capital Bhubaneswar, on the Bay of Bengal. after the 12th century Jagannath Temple located in the city, It is also known as Shree Jagannath Dhama. It is one of the original Chardham pilgrimage sites for Hindus. since ancient times Puri has been known by many names, and it is locally known as “Shri Kshetra,” and the temple of Lord Jagannath is known as “Badadeula.”  The Puri and Jagannath temples were attacked from the 7th century AD to the early 19th century, 18 times by Muslim rulers with the intention of looting the temple treasures. 

Shree Jagannath Temple

Shree Jagannath Temple is an important Hindu temple dedicated to the form of Vishnu and located in the city of puri. The present temple was built on the site of a previous temple in the 10th century and was completed by Anantavarman Chodaganga Deva, the first king of the Eastern Ganga dynasty. The Puri temple is famous for its annual rath yatra or rath Utsav, in which the three main deities are drawn on the car of the huge and elaborately decorated temple. It is one of the Char Dhams. This temple is sacred to all Hindus and especially to the people of the Vaishnava tradition. Many great saints like Ramananda and Ramanuja were closely associated with the temple. 

Gundicha Temple

Gundicha Temple is a Hindu temple and its located in the temple town of Puri.  It is notable for being the destination of the annual rath yatra celebrated in Puri. While it remains empty for most of the year, the temple holds images of the deities of Jagannath, his brother Balbhadra and sister Subhadra for seven full days each year during the annual Rathyatra festival. 

Golden beach 

It’s also known as Puri Beach. It is on the shore of the Bay of Bengal in the city of puri. It is known for being a Hindu holy place and a tourist attraction. The beach is the venue of the annual Puri Beach Festival, co-sponsored by the Ministry of Tourism, City of Odisha, Commissioner of Handicraft Development, and Eastern Zonal Cultural Center, Kolkata. The beach hosts a sand art display featuring work by international award-winning local sand artist Sudarshan Pattanayak. Golden Beach in Puri was awarded the prestigious ‘Blue Flag‘ tag on October 11, 2020, by the Foundation for Environment Education of Denmark. 

Vimala Temple

Vimala Mandir or Bimala Mandir is a Hindu temple dedicated to Vimala Devi(goddess) located inside the Jagannath temple complex in Puri. It is generally regarded as Shaktipeeth, in the sacred temples dedicated to the Hindu Goddess.
