Nahan Town was the capital of the former Sirmaur kingdom. The city of Nahan is the headquarters of the Sirmaur district, located in Himachal Pradesh. Nahan is located on the top of Shivalik Hills. It is surrounded by greenery. In 1621, the city was founded by Raja Karam Prakash

Story Behind city name 

When a king was killing a lion, the saint there said “Nahar” which means “don’t kill it“. The saint’s name was Baba Banwari Das. The saint lived here with his companion named Nahar, where the Nahar palace now stands. also is that Nahar means lion in Sanskrit. And the place where Nahan is, there were also lions, hence its name Nahar, which was later changed to Nahan.

Renuka lake is located in the Sirmaur district of  Himachal Pradesh. It is above sea level approximately 672 meters. with a circumference of about 3214 m. It is the largest lake in Himachal Pradesh. The lake was named after the goddess Renuka Devi. Boating is available on the lake and also It is well connected by road.

approximately 25 km from the Sirmaur district, The Jaitak Fort is located. Located at an altitude of 1479 m above sea level. Jaitak Fort, located in the Jaitak Hills. It is believed that the fort was built from the materials of the destroyed Nahan fort. After attacking and sabotaging the Nahan fort and palace, in 1810, the Jaitak fort was built by the Gurkha leader, Ranjorsinh Thapa, and his brave men. Here the most important battle was fought between the British army and the Gurkhas. 

Paonta Sahib

Paonta Sahib is an industrial city. The town is located on National Highway 7, in the south of the Sirmaur district. 19 km from here The largest limestone market in Asia is located at Satun, and some of the largest companies also. 

On the banks of the river Yamuna, Paonta Sahib is an important place of worship for the Sikhs. which hosting a large Gurudwara named Gurudwara Paonta Sahib. 

Trilokpur

Trilokpur is the sites of the Hindu religion which is located on a hillock approximately 24 km south-west of Nahan at an altitude of about 430 m. there is a triangle of three Shakti temples in the region, so this place called Trilokpur. Each temple shows a different form of Goddess Durga.
