Hampi is also known as the Group of Monuments. This is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, located in the east-central Karnataka of India. The city is considered a pilgrimage site for Hinduism. Surrounded by 500  Ancient monuments, beautiful temples, bustling street markets, bad, treasury buildings. The captivating relics of the Vijayanagar Empire, Hampi is considered the backpacker’s delight.

The city of Hampi was considered the capital of Vijayanagar in the 14th century. It is believed that the city was very prosperous before. According to Portuguese history, Hampi was a city near the Tungabhadra River. The city was rich and magnificent, with numerous temples, farms, and trade markets. The place is described by UNESCO as a “simple, magnificent place” of more than 1,600 surviving relics of the last great Hindu.

Virupaksha Temple

Virupaksha Temple

The Virupaksha Temple is part of the Group of Monuments in Hampi. This temple has been included in UNESCO. This temple was built by Lakhan Dandash under the rule of Deva Raya II. He was also known as Prada Deva Rai of the Vijayanagara Empire. This temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. Lord Shiva is known here as Virupaksha. 

Monkey Temple

The Monkey Temple is also known as the Hanuman Temple. The temple is located on the top of Anjaneya Hill. This temple is dedicated to Lord Hanuman. This temple is believed to be 500 years old. The idol of God in this temple was made by Shri Vyasaraja, who was the Rajguru of the Vijayanagar Kingdom. Which stands at this place as evidence of the connection of Rama and Hanuman. According to Hindu legend, Lord Rama and Hanuman met for the first time here on a hill called Malyavanta hill.

Pampa Sarovar

Pampa Sarovar

Pampa Sarovar is a lake in Koppal district near Hampi. This lake is considered to be one of the five sacred lakes or lakes of India. The lake is located south of the Tungabhadra river. The lake is considered sacred by Hindus. According to Hindu mythology, Pampa, the form of Parvati, the consort of Shiva, performed penance to show her devotion to Shiva. This lake is also mentioned in Shrimad Bhagwat Purana.

Krishna temple

Krishna Temple is also known as Balakrishna Temple. The temple is located on the other side of Hemakuta hill. This is part of the Hampi Group of Moments called Krishnapura. There are destructive temples of Krishna and destroyed temples for gods and goddesses. The original image of Balakrishna in his sanctum sanctorum is now in a museum in Chennai.

King’s Balance

Kings Balance is a 15th-century ancient weight. It was used on royal occasions every year to weigh the king. The structure of this place has intricately carved columns. The jewels that were weighed here were donated to the priest there. This King balance scale is also known as Tula Bhara or Tula Purushadana.
