The zoo was established in 1984 and opened to the public in 1995. The zoo in Nainital was the only home for a Siberian tiger in India since 2001 that died in 2011. It is a high altitude zoo situated in Nainital. It is located on the hill Sher Ka Danda. This zoo has many endangered animals from the Himalayas.
